A Fruitful Week!

Feb 03, 2023

Our second week commenced as planned! Monday morning, 08.00 devotions with all the children, toddlers, staff and nannies holding babies, sitting on the floor. Most of this time is in the Thai language with some songs in English.

Devotions fill the Heart

Before rotational group activities from 09.00 to noon, I had explained to the children about floating and that I would help them in the swimming pool to float. During the week in the Agape pool, most children have freely practiced floating under my supervision. One child was very resistant all week. On Thursday, with assurance that they would be supported, they put their head back, arms out and relaxed to float. To see this child gain self confidence to float, my heart jumped for joy!

Teaching Floating

After devotions on Tuesday, one child was singing Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. I made a comment, “How nice that they are singing this song.” It was overheard by the lovely Thai Manager, Oye, who was walking by. She commented, “That’s the fruit of your work.” Later that afternoon, I was offered an icy fruit drink by Oye. Thank you, Oye. I felt double blessed.

Wednesday was an outing to a Water Park. MANY thanks to the funds from the visiting Japanese team. On a HOT day in Thailand, the children had SO much fun on the various rides around the park, a delightful picnic lunch, and then a swim in the pool with water slides. Yes, they likely slept well that night, with lots of smiles and dreams of laughing with their Agape Home siblings. Ka!

At the Water Park

Thursday morning after devotions, the children drew patterns by hand, using colored wax crayons, on 300 hard boiled hens eggs and 1000 quails eggs – a THOUSAND!!! These eggs were then dipped in bowls of various colored dye, in preparation for the Easter Egg Hunt the next day. Love, love, love.

Coloring Easter Eggs

A Basket of Easter Eggs

Friday morning, while the children were in devotions, staff and volunteers hid the eggs in the front grass and grounds. The children were given a plastic bag and on the count of 1, 2, 3, GO! they rushed out, each time exclaiming as they spotted an egg. SO MUCH FUN! Most had at least 10 and more eggs in their bag. And then hand-full’s of small chocolate eggs were handed to the children, much to their delight. Many thanks to all the people around the world that sent these Easter Egg supplies. Yes!!!

Finding the Easter Eggs

With the help of two other volunteers, I have been teaching ‘Fun English’ to eleven older teenagers. It is good to see them gain self-confidence as they practice their English speaking in a group setting. One student, who has not conversed with me in previous years, is now coming to me and speaking in simple English. What a delight! And I was offered some freshly cut, juicy pineapple, a favorite. More fruit!!!

Fresh Pineapple – Yum!

The week began well, yet finished better as we remember the life and death of our Lord. Thank you Jesus for giving your life on the Cross. Thank you Jesus for loving us all. And thank you Jesus for always giving Agape love, unconditional love to one and all, big and small.

This past week one of Avis's long lasting dreams finally came true when Agape hosted an Australian team who painted the fencing surrounding our kids pool. This fence was paid for by an Australian woman ten years ago and Avis has been eagerly waiting to see it in bright colors. We are feeling beyond blessed for their time, energy and service during their time here and are very pleased with the outcome of their hard work! They are welcome to come back and enjoy the pool anytime!

Agape Home has officially finished our Dental Clinic and got to use it for the first time this past November(2022). Smiles for Everyone Thailand brought Volunteers to Agape Home to provide dental care to all of our kids on site and also to 25 kids from a local government orphanage. A few of our kids who had graduated from Agape in previous years were working at the dental clinic at the time and were also able to come as volunteers to help. They spent time assessing all of the children for any dental issues and then correcting any problems that were found. Smiles for Everyone Thailand has agreed to visit Agape again in the next few months. Our goal for this year is to have a volunteer dentist come to Agape each month to maintain our children’s dental care along with providing care to children from other NGOs and government orphanages in the area. We are so thankful for this new resource at Agape and are looking forward to how the Lord will use it in the future.
